Joshua Winston D.V.M

     Dr. Winston was born and raised in Queens New York. From the time he was a toddler he knew he wanted to be a 'dog and cat' doctor. Thanks to indulgent parents he had a multitude of pets from fish to reptiles to small mammals and of course cats and dogs. He attended the Universita di Parma in Italy and graduated in 1981 with honors. He did is post graduate training at the prestigious North Shore Animal Hospital in New York before opening a very popular veterinary practice the "Southgate Animal Hospital' on Long Island. In 1998 Dr. Winston moved to Arizona but then was accepted to a special program at the Veterinary College at Iowa State University covering training all areas of veterinary medicine. Upon returning to Arizona he entered a 3 years residency program in dermatology at a specialty hospital in Mesa.
​     In 2003 Dr. Winston had the honor and privilege of taking over the Sun City West Animal Hospital. Since then, in addition to general practice he has taken advanced training in internal medicine and the practice of ultrasound and endoscopy. He has also dedicated himself to help the animal rescue groups and is the volunteer medical Director of the Sun Valley Animal Shelter and the Sun Valley Hope Animal Hospital which he established as a low-cost facility for rescue groups, military families and for loving pet owners that may have significant financial restraints. He is happily married to his wonderful wife Donna and between them they have 4 fantastic kids and 3 grandchildren. ​

Hugh Gifford D.V.M

Hugh is a graduate of Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to his veterinary career, Dr Giffords served as a police officer with the NYPD and as a firefighter with the FDNY. He is motivated by compassion for those who can’t speak for themselves and is passionate in his belief that our four-legged friends receive the finest medical care possible. He has additional training in Small Animal Medicine from Kansas State University. Jack the Akita is his constant companion.
